Head to Head Book Wars

In class we have been working on a Persuasive Writing Unit.  Specifically, we have been looking at some types of Propaganda used to convince people that a particular idea has merit.  Using the different types of Propaganda:

  • Name Calling
  • Glittering Generality
  • Bandwagon
  • Testimonial
  • Red Herring
  • Withholding Facts

I want you to create an advertisement to “sell” your outside of class reading book to the class.

  1. You must start by talking about all the good qualities of your book using persuasive rhetoric to convince your audience to read it.  Specifically, use the following types of propagandas: Glittering generality, Bandwagon and Testimonials.
  2. You must talk about why your outside of class reading book is so much better than the outside of class book being read by your competition (see list below) using: Name Calling, Red Herring arguments and Withholding Facts.
  3. Finally, conclude your sales pitch by making your strongest: Pathos, Logos and Ethos arguments about why the class should read your outside of class reading book.

In class on Friday, May 18, 2012 we will be presenting your blogs with a class vote on who did the job making a sales pitch about their outside of class reading book.
