Our learning community provides students with an extremely
talented teaching staff, a variety of learning opportunities
and an opportunity to grow and challenge themselves. Our hope
is that students leave Dansville Middle School empowered to
stay intellectually engaged, instilled with behaviors in keeping
with responsible citizenship and the initiative necessary
to become the best person they can.
Updates:
In order to continue with our mission, Dansville
Middle School staff is consistently working to
update and change programs. Last year, the
staff spent much of their collaboration time
developing two programs to put into place this
fall.
The first program is our
new Positive Behavioral Support Program (PBS).
This system includes a discipline rubric with
levels of consequences, behaviorally specific
rules in all high traffic areas and the
introduction of our SOAR character building
program to all students. All middle school
students are assigned to a homeroom teacher.
The first week, students met in homerooms to
review the student handbook, review the new SOAR
program (Safety, Organization, Attitude and
Responsibility), and work on team building.
Students will continue to meet in homerooms
periodically throughout the school year, working
on character building and study skill
activities. The staff is now developing a
system of rewards for students who meet the SOAR
expectations.
The second significant
change this year is the schedule. Students have
seven classes, along with a 29 minute 8th
period. The purpose of this time frame is to
allow teachers to work with students in small
group settings. Students may get help on
assignments, work to “make-up” tests and
assignments or study for tests. Homeroom is
also held during this time frame.
