POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SUPPORT  (PBIS)

As a staff we have worked together to encourage positive behavior and create a positive school-wide system of support for students to make good choices.  We believe that in addition to educating our students academically, we have a responsibility to foster the development of their CHARACTER.  The staff has engaged in an ongoing evaluation of the traits represented below that correlate with each letter of the word CHARACTER.  The students developed the definitions for each trait. The staff members will then evaluate each trait and find which traits need improvement.  From there, a positive reward system will be developed to encourage students who are meeting or exceeding expectations for that trait.  In this way, positive behavior is rewarded rather than focusing only on negative behavior.

CHARACTER MEANS…

COMMITMENT: Never giving up on something you are passionate about, even when times are hard.

HONESTY: Being truthful to yourself and everyone around you.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Being responsible for your actions and following through to the fullest.

RESPONSIBILITY: Doing what you know you have to do and owning up to things you do wrong.

ACHIEVEMENT: The result of hard work, effort, and good attitude; the real rewards that have truly been earned and last a lifetime.

CARING: Showing compassion for someone or something by thinking about them rather than yourself and actually talking to other people to see how they’re doing.

TEAMWORK: Cooperating well within a group and working together to achieve a common goal.

EXCELLENCE: Being the best you can be; trying as hard as possible and striving for your best.

RESPECT: Treating people how you want to be treated regardless of how you feel about them.
