Course Description:
A broad spectrum on many aspects of the creative process adn materials will be presented to the student. This class will cover such areas as color, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and design. Each project will have a reasonable time limit. Grades will be calculated on how well the student followed directions and his or her honest endeavor to do their best. The student may be charged for use of some materials. This class is recommended for the beginning art student as a solid building block in the art program.

Course Title: ART II

Course Description:
This class is for the art student who has successfully completed Art I and would like to continue the study of general art techniques. Projects will be more sophisticated and expectations higher. Grades will be calculated on how well students followed directions, proper use of materials and sincerity of the student to do his or her best.

Course Description:
Students will explore design elements in projects that will be challenging and rewarding. Many mediums will be used such as paint, colored pencils, pastels, and more. Once the basic design concepts have been mastered, the second 9 weeks will be a look into various art-based jobs where design concepts are used such as architecture, commercial art, fashion design, interior design, environmental design, and more. Students will break into independent study groups in areas of interest. Field trips and guest speakers will also be part of this course. Grades will be calculated on how well the student follows directions, proper use of materials, and the sincerity of the student to do his or her best.

Course Title: DRAWING/COLOR COMPOSITION

Course Description:
An in-depth exploration of drawing techniques and materials. Students will acquire drawing skills in still life, landscape, perspective, and figure drawing. They will also expand these skills into the area of printmaking. Well known artists will also be studied for their style and technique. Students will learn applicable color theory so they may successfully express themselves in watercolors, arcylics, and tempera. Students will look at work done by well-known artists for their style, use of color and technique. Advanced students will work by contract with the teacher. Grades will be calculated on the student following directions as well as working to his of her best ability. The students may be charged for use of some materials.

Course Title: SCULPTURE

Course Description:
The student must successfully complete eighth grade Art or Art I to qualify for this class. Students will work with various mediums to create three-dimensional projects. There will be a field to Meijer Gardens and/or Detroit Institute of Arts.

Course Title: BAND

Course Description:
Band will use a variety of music and activities to create a changing four-year curriculum. Music will be divided into various categories: warm-up, transcriptions, band literature, marches, and pop/rock, with a different segment for each category being explored each year. Activities include trips and performance outside of the school district.
The band will continue its local performance schedule of three concerts, home football games, marching festival, the Memorial Day Parade, and Commencement.
Students will also perform a progressive proficiency examination on their instrutment each year. The proficiency must be passed to remain in band the following year.

Course Description:
This course emphasized musical performance, music history, and voice development. A minimum of two concerts are performed each year at school as well as concerts and assemblies at outside locations when possible. Music literature of all styles and periods is covered.
