Becoming a Love and Logic Parent Program®

A seven-week parent training program designed by the Love and Logic® Institute, Inc.

Would you like to feel more confident as a parent?  Would you like to have more fun parenting?  The Becoming a Love and Logic Parent program can offer tips, ideas, and strategies that can help make that happen.  Love and Logic is based on 2 simple rules: 1. Adults set firm limits in loving ways without anger, threats or lectures; 2. When a child causes a problem, the adult hands it back in loving ways.  If you are interested in learning ways to do this in your household or just need a refresher, please contact Kris Wing at #623-6120, ext. 268 (M, Th, F) or 270 (Tu, W) or email at kwing@dansville.org.   We are hoping to offer the program in the summer and/or fall and we are looking to find out how many people are interested in attending and what times would be best.

Big News for Next Year’s Kindergarten

You may have seen one of the front page articles of the Community News this week about free breakfast for all kindergarten students next year.  Thanks to the quick thinking of Mrs. Momberg and Mrs. Salmon that is going to be a reality for 2012-2013.  We are excited to be able to provide this free service with delivery right to the kindergarten classrooms.  What a great way for our youngest students to start the day!

Many Special Events

The last few weeks of school bring many special field trips, guest speakers, and other fun activities.  Please be sure to read over the papers that come home in the Friday Folders for updates on these special events that may impact your student(s).

Mr. Cox’s Comments

March is one of my favorite school months of the year.  There is the much needed Spring Break to look forward to as well as the nicer weather we all long for after a dreary winter.  However, there is much more to March than “in like a lion, and out like a lamb.”  Naturally, I’m referring to Reading Month.  There is research that states the more students can read books of their own choosing the more their fluency and comprehension will improve.  This is a great time of year to test that out.  Mrs. Weber, our librarian, has put into place reading incentives related to the Accelerated Reader program that revolve around students reading books of their choice, at their reading level.  Think about your own reaction when someone says to you, “Here’s a book I think you should read, you might like it.”  Really?  I don’t know about you but when I step foot inside a bookstore I don’t have any problem wanting to buy about ten different books that I KNOW I’m going to enjoy.  The power to choose what I spend my time reading is a huge factor in my desire to stick with a book from start to finish.  Please keep that in mind as we all attempt to motivate kids to read more.  If you have a child who lacks intrinsic motivation to read do not be afraid to allow him or her to stick with comic books, magazines, or below level reading for awhile.  Reading almost anything is better than reading nothing at all and once they get started the interests will expand with the enjoyment!
