What’s Happening…April 9-13

Here is the letter about simple machines:

Simple Machine Project

Over the past few weeks, we have been studying simple machines that have been used for thousands of years.  The six simple machines we have focused on are: the lever, inclined plane, wedge, screw, wheel and axel, and pulley.  For this project, we are going to take at least one of these simple machines and demonstrate how it works.

These projects will be due on Monday, April 16th and will be presented in class.  Here is a checklist of requirements so you know exactly what is expected of you:

  • A note card or sheet including your name, the name of the project, and all of the simple machines used in the project.
  • The project is no taller than 18 inches and wider than 24 inches.
  • The project should be made of house-hold materials (paper towel rolls, rulers, old toys)
  • Parents may help, but the planning, designing, and most of the construction should be done by the student.
  •  You need to prepare a short oral presentation for your project to be given at school on April 16th.

Have fun and let’s see how creative you can get with a simple machine!!
